This course is for existing workers in the mineral exploration sectors who wish to transition across to the energy sector. Students will gain the skills, knowledge and practical experience required to work safely and efficiently on drilling rigs (onshore oil/gas) as a Lease hand, Utility Worker or Junior Floorman.
This qualification reflects the role of employees such as a floorman, who undertake a prescribed range of functions involving known routines and procedures and who take some responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.
You will learn to perform a range of functions used in the context of a drilling site, while observing statutory and legal compliance requirements. You will also learn about environment, communication and risk management systems.
You will learn to comply with and demonstrate commitment to all aspects of relevant legislation and codes of practice relating to drilling operations.

RPL is an assessment process that assesses an individual’s non-formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning outcomes, competency outcomes, or standards for entry to, and/or partial or total completion of, a qualification.
You must be currently employed in, or have authorised access to an operational drilling team while undertaking the Recognition of prior Learning process.
Unique situations may call for gap training to occur. Options for completing training can be discussed between the assessor and student. As part of the RPL assessment process, the assessor may determine training is required in one or more units to achieve the whole qualification.
